Have an Inexpensive
Dream Vacation In Puerto Vallarta!
Manning, Language Immersion and Travel
think that they would love to go to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico but think it
is too expensive to do very often. That isn't true at all. There is nothing
better than a trip to Mexico in the winter...or anytime really! Our philosophy
has always been travel inexpensively and travel longer! The beaches are
beautiful, the people friendly and the water is warm. Puerto Vallarta is
one of my favorite destinations for a relaxing get away. Many years ago it
was comprised of the center of town with just a few large hotels down the
road. Now the northern beach, Nuevo Vallarta is lined with hotels and most
tourists stay in that area. Other areas north have grown up as well,
like Bucerias, Punta Mita, Sayulita and San Francisco (nicknamed San Pancho).
The advantages of staying in the large hotels is that they are self contained
and a person can go to Mexico and not even have to leave the hotel. On the
other hand, there is a secret that not everyone knows about.

"on the cheap" can be even more fun, and I might add, more authentic. The
truth is that "el centro" and "Zona Romantica" in the old Vallarta (Vallarta
Viejo) is alive and provides a traveler with a much more charming experience
and is closer to many great places to visit. When I say charming, I mean
that the places are clean and safe to eat in and yet they have more of the
Mexican flavor of the 40's. The best part is that it is a much more economical
stay. Imagine staying in a clean little hotel right on or back from the beach.
From the hotel you can walk to the "Malecon" or walkway along the beach.
is a fantastic place to people watch and hang out. One of the treasures of
Puerto Vallarta is the Rio Cuale park. It is right off the Malecon and is
a small island. Free and public events happen regularly and are posted. Under
the bridge there are local artists. During my last visit, I admired the artists
work. It turned out that she gave lessons and before I knew it I was sitting
at her table painting away. It was the highlight of the trip. My ideal day
in Vallarta starts out at my $35-60 hotel in el centro. I take my free cup
of coffee and drink it on the rooftop patio. Many birds and animals roam
the park so birdwatching is great. After watching the parrots, egrets, and
even iguanas in the treetops across the street------birds go up and
down the river. I am ready for breakfast. There are fast food cheap meals
but I am looking for something more tasty and local.
